CHILDREN’S BOOK CELEBRATES THE HEALTHY HOME

role models and positive imagery—we all
need them. It gives us hope and fuels our
aspirations. If we can visualize or imagine
a good thing, oftentimes our hearts will
dwell on it, and propel us towards it.
For
children it is no different. They have to
see wholeness in order to believe that it
exists. They have to see healthy relationships
to know how healthy relationships feel.
They need dreams to motivate them past their
present dilemmas. In the new children’s
picture book by Michael Ambrosio, It
Takes a Lot of Love, children will see
a playful bear being patiently loved by
his parents—both mother and father—in the
midst of his own willfulness and resistance
to bedtime. It is a celebration of a healthy
home. For parents; it will make them laugh
as they remember their own childhood bedtime
escapades or those of their children. It
will encourage parents to celebrate the
life-enriching challenge of bringing up
little ones—the hard work and patience,
the humor and joy. Written in rhyming verse
with endearing illustrations, this book
paints the universal truth that it takes
a lot of love to build a healthy home. For
children who live in a loving home, they
will immediately identify with the story
and bond more deeply with the theme of love.
For children who live in a less healthy
environment it will give them a desire for
more. For example, while testing the theme
of this book by reading it to a kindergarten
class, Michael Ambrosio met a boy named
Austin. After reading the book, Michael
invited questions. Austin raised his hand.
When Michael called on him, Austin looked
up wistfully and said, “Wow, I don’t have
a daddy. I wonder what having a daddy would
be like.” Austin wasn’t bitter. Instead
Austin was dreaming, dreaming of a better
day and a better life.
It
Takes a Lot of Love, affirms the healthy
home, both the reality and the dream.

is author of three previous picture books, and
the Destiny
series of chapter books and has been published

Magazine
and other regional publications. He lives
with his wife and six children in El Dorado
Hills,
California.
