Small Stuff ©

Little fingers, smaller toes,
skin so soft and sweet.
The hair is mine, the eyes are yours,
the reflection is complete.

Lips so thin, with button nose,
the smiling baby kisses.
Squeaky toys and laughter roars
at triumphs and small misses.

What is it there that brings such care
amidst the daily dishes?

Silent thoughts, decisions made
to live for someone else.
A path some choose, but some do not,
a window passes by.

Some will blink or get sucked away
with their many missions.
Their window is dark, their window fades,
no less confusion stares.

Their soul is hungry, their soul distraught,
their light turns dark and black.

But for those who seize
the winter’s cold
and give their scarf away,

their window is bright
with sun-filled light
a haven for the small.

And in their eyes one can see
the power of the weak.
Innocence turns, selfishness burns,
the pages are complete.
